New Year, New… Everything?
I know so many people who are going through big changes in their lives right now, so I thought this topic would be good to take a crack at.
Here’s the deal—I’m not a fan of change. Not at all. In fact, the biggest stress about my graduation was the fact that my life was about to change. I had have no idea what I’m going to be doing when the new year comes around. I can’t fall back on school like I always have, and that’s a big change. Knowing that the days of academic writing have left me and a new frontier is before me is… well it’s just wild.
So how am I dealing?
That’s a good question. I’ve been deflecting a lot, it’s been a lot of, “haha, I have NO idea what I’m doing but like, that’s okay!” and generic answers to questions about what I want to do next when distant family members ask.
Honestly, I have no idea what’s next or how to go about finding it but I can’t back peddle either. I have to move forward, toward the change.
So what’s my plan? How am I going to face change head-on and grab the bull by the horns?
Firstly, though I’ll be starting at least some of this endeavor this year, 2018 is almost over and 2019 is right on the horizon! What a timely occurrence when discussing change *wink wink* so I’m placing all of my energy in 2019. I want to go in with ideas about my year and plans that fill that. I accomplished a major feat in 2018, and so with a week left in the year, I’m giving myself downtime. Mostly because I don’t have much of a choice, but also because I’m taking the advice of those adults in my life who love me, “You deserve to rest.”
So, with that said, I think my 2019 plan is—I say think because things change constantly and I’m not goofy enough to think otherwise—to research the job field I’m hoping to be apart of, and find that dream career. I want to get excited about my career like I used to be excited school. I want to make moves for myself and have big goals to work toward. So my plan for change is to first make GOALS.
Big or small, I don’t care. I am a goal-oriented worker. If I can be dedicated and excited about establishing a goal, I am almost always certain to meet it. I know that I love and enjoy creating life plans that are goal and checkmark oriented, so I figure I should utilize that.
I also want to keep growing, changing, and learning. I’m actually considering taking another language class at my community college just to stay sharp and learn new stuff. I might be done with school, but I know I never want to stop LEARNING.
2. LEARNING SOMETHING NEW.
While I’d love to take French or something, I also know that 2019 will be filled with new and exciting experiences for me. I’ll be getting a job and learning the ropes there. I’ll be out in the adult world full time, away from the bubble of academic life, and so I’ll be learning so much there. I know that I need have a desire to keep learning though and so no matter what, I’m going to pick something new up.
I also need to pick things up to do in my free time. I’ve acquired a great deal of free time, and an amazing pal of mine who also just graduated imparted some of her wisdom on me. In very Bridgid-y fashion, I was dreaming big about my future and not considering little things. My mind has been on graduate school or finding an awesome job, not picking up new HOBBIES.
A really wonderful friend of mine who also just graduated told me all about how she’s got these plans for 2019 and that so many of them are about filling up free time with hobbies. I’d literally not even considered this but as soon as she said it, I was 100% all in. So I want to pick up new hobbies and my pal and I are going to pick one up together. (Honestly I’m leaning toward a cycling class but we’ll see!) I’m also hoping I can get into calligraphy too! That might be under the learning bullet point though, because any sort of typography is HARD.
Another thing I want to give my full attention to in 2019 in my blog, CREATINGBRIDGID
Honestly it’s a wonder to me that people have been coming to check in on my blog while I’ve been in school. I really am so grateful. I know I keep saying it, but it’s true. Thank you. One of my big goals for 2019 is to keep this blog updated and running smoothly. Regularly weekly posts, regular content on my Instagram as it’s a large part of my blogosphere, and even some new stuff that I’m keeping a secret until I can be 100% sure that I can make it work.
Things are coming to my webspace because I love it here. Which y’all know, I’m always talking about it. So, be on the lookout because I am excited.
How do y’all prepare for change? What are some of your favorite ways to prepare for a big shift?? Are there any tips you can give on how not to act or what not to do when big changes are coming? Tell me in the comments!
I hope that whatever changes come to you in 2019, you feel well equipped or at least excited about them. 2018 is almost over, and I cannot express how grateful I am. Thank y’all for being apart of my 2018.
Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!
