Hogwarts Houses + Moon Signs.

No really, this isn’t a quiz.

By no means am I someone who knows everything that there is to know about the Astrological signs, but I do know a thing or two about Hogwarts houses. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve learned a little bit more about different signs and birth charts and so instead of making this prediction based off of your sun sign like a BuzzFeed would, I’m going to frame this around your moon sign.

Okay, so for those of you who were like me a few years ago and had never even heard of a moon sign or a birth chart, let me try to give you the most basic explanation:

Everyone has a birth chart that shows the placements of different constellations in relation to the place you were born and the time you were born. There are different placements on your chart and each sign affects your personality and person differently, but Western astrology—the astrology that we use in America—focuses solely on our sun sign.

“What’s your Zodiac sign?”

“Oh, I’m a Virgo!”

Most everyone knows their sun sign, and sometimes you’ll hear people say things like “I don’t believe in astrology because I don’t really relate to the characteristics of my sign.” That really comes from a place of only being exposed to one sign, and there are many reasons (which can be explained by your birth chart) for not relating to your sun sign.

This leads me to why I wanted to use moon signs instead. One of the things I’ve noticed from just watching people discuss Astrology and then doing some of my own reading and even looking over my own chart, is that a persons moon sign seems to mostly closely reflect how a person views themselves.

According to AstroStyle.com, the moon sign is the one of the most important parts of your sign because it is all about your emotions and often people feel that they relate strong to their moon sign.

**If you need to see your birth chart you can visit CafeAstrology.com. To get the most accurate reading of your chart, you should know your birth time and the place you were born. Also, if you know of any better sites to find birth charts, please drop a link in the comments!**

All of that to say this: I think that everyones moon sign would more accurately place them in a Hogwarts house than someones sun sign, so I’m going for it. Oh, and please, if I’ve gotten anything wrong, correct me!

Aries, Aquarius, Leo, and Gemini.

Each of these signs differ greatly, but I think that how your process things through these signs would place you in Gryffindor! (Although, Leo’s could easily be in Slytherin…)

According to Pottermore, Gryffindor house values bravery, courage, and determination over anything else. Gryffindor’s are pretty much what everyone wanted to be when the Harry Potter books first started coming out. As time has gone on, and the first generation of Wizarding Kiddos (that’s me!) got older, we started to take an appreciation for the other houses! Gryffindor is always a fan favorite though! (Unless you’re a die hard Slytherin.) Fellow Gryffindor’s are: Hermione Granger, Harry Potter, Ronald Weasley, Neville Longbottom, Sirius Black, and many more.

Cancer, Libra, and Pisces

This is my house and I’m a Libra moon! That’s actually what inspired this blog post. My sun is in Virgo, but I definitely think I fit in with the Hufflepuff’s a little more than the… wait, no spoilers.

Hufflepuff’s value fairness, loyalty, and patience over anything else. They’re given a whole lot of slack in the books, at least near the beginning, but throughout the series (and into the Fantastic Beasts series) there becomes a better appreciation for them. Fellow Hufflepuffs are: New Scamander, Nymphadora Tonks, and Cedric Diggory.

Capricorn, Scorpio, and Taurus

There’s something about the words CEO and ambition and the phrase “finer things in life” that really get me thinking about Slytherins! Was it surprising to find Taurus in the Slytherin group? Yes. I’m sticking to my decision on this though!

Slytherin’s value ambition, cunningness, and pride. They are also given quite a bad rep early on in the novels, but for different reasons and they don’t tend to get much of a redemption ark throughout the piece. (Mostly because they produce so many dark Wizards.) Really though, Slytherin house is a really great house and they produced some of the most interesting characters in the Harry Potter series! Fellow Slytherin’s are: Tom Riddle (Lord Voldemort), Draco Malfoy, Lucius Malfoy, Regulus Arcturus Black, Bellatrix LeStrange, Albus Severus Potter, and Scorpius Malfoy.

Virgo and Sagittarius

Ravenclaw and Virgo? Unsurprising to me! Sagittarius being the only other house that I thought fit in the Ravenclaw house was definitely are surprise! As a Virgo sun, I’ve always felt I should have been in Ravenclaw, although I guess that’s how our girl boss Hermione Granger felt too. So many people have asked JK Rowling why Hermione wasn’t a Ravenclaw, but I think that’s answered pretty clearly in the first book. Anyway, back to the goods!

Ravenclaw’s value wisdom, wit, and learning over other virtues. They, at least in my eyes, were always revered highly in the books. They, along with the Gryffindor’s, got to have their Common Room in a tower, and they’re almost never spoken poorly about in the beginning of the series. However, as the novels go on, and new characters are introduced, readers realize that knowledge, wit, and wisdom come in many different shapes and sizes. Fellow Ravenclaw’s are: Luna Lovegood, Cho Chang, Garrick Olilvander, Gilderoy Lockhart (somehow?), Professor Flitwick, Professor Quirrell, and Professor Sybill Trelawney.

This was a… humbling post to write. I had to do a lot of reading and debating to make these choices and even still, some of these signs could definitely move around. I think that’s sort of the beauty of both your Hogwarts house and your moon sign. There are days where I sit and think “Man, I could definitely be in Ravenclaw or Gryffindor,” even though I am a proud Hufflepuff!

Anyway, if you liked this kind of post, let me know so I can write something else like it! If you didn’t like it, let me know too. If you have any counter arguments for any of the signs and their houses, please please leave a comment below!! I want to know what other people think and also, leave a comment telling me what your Hogwarts house and moon sign are!

As always, thanks for reading!
